Une petite question importante quand même... Je me rend au nord Laos en mars 2017 je dois faire la route Vientiane/Luang Prabang en bus avec un arrêt à Vang Vieng

Je viens de lire sur le site du ministères des affaires étrangères que la route N13 entre Vang Vieng/Luang Prabang est fortement déconseillé !!!! Sauf raison impérative car plusieurs attaques de véhicules par des agresseurs non identifiés aux alentours de Kasi !!!!

Auriez vous des infos à ce sujet ????

Bonjour a tous, J'ai prévue de louer une voiture a Bangkok et d'aller a Vientiane, resté quelques jours a Vientiane puis repartir vers Chiang Mai, en passant par le Laos la route sue me propose Maps me fait traverser la frontière par un ferries au niveau de la province d'uttaradit. J'ai du coup plusieurs question: En conduisant 4 a 5h par jours vous pensez qu'il me faudrais combien de temps ? Je compte 5jours moi environs. Ensuite la location d'une voiture va t'elle me permettre de traverser la frontière ? Ensuite connaissez vous des lieux sympa sur la route où faire des arrets? Merci d'avance pour vos réponses.

Pour infos je connais les routes thaïlandaise pour y avoir déjà conduit durant un mois donc pas de soucis de se côté là !

Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

je créer ce post en vu de préparer mon futur voyage, qui est pour le mois de Mars.

Je compte partir du 25mars au 30 avril (plus ou moins) avec ma compagne direction donc l'Asie du Sud-Est, et je comptais faire une boucle Thaïlande/Laos/Birmanie.

Pour le billet, au départ de Bruxelles, c'est 460€ aller/retour avec Eithad Airways, ça va je m’attendais plutôt à 600€ :)

Est ce que pour vous 1 mois c'est bien pour découvrir les 3 pays ou faut il qu'on se limite à 2 (on penche de plus en plus vers cette solution, avec un combo Thaïlande/Laos)?

Nos "objectifs" de voyage sont plutôt les grands espaces, les paysages, les randos, la nature et architecture et la gastronomie 😛

J'en suis vraiment au tout tout début de la préparation, donc je suis ouvert à vos conseils et proposition de boucle.

Hello, We’re a family of four with two teens aged 16 and 18. We’re heading to Thailand this summer. We’ll arrive in Bangkok and plan to take a flight to Luang Prabang. I’ve seen there are some great visits and excursions to do (temples, markets, waterfalls) and maybe even venture a bit north to places like Nong Khiaw, Muang Xay, Muang Ngoy, or Oudom Xay. But I’ve also heard about the Bokeo region with the Gibbon Experience. Since we won’t be able to do everything, I’d love to hear about your experiences, impressions, and advice on the two options I’m considering, especially since we’ll be meeting family in Chiang Mai, Thailand, afterward.

Option 1: A loop from Luang Prabang heading slightly north, then a flight from Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai.

Option 2: A few days in Luang Prabang, exploring within a few dozen kilometers around, then heading to Bokeo province for the 2-day/1-night Gibbon Experience. For this option, I saw on Rome2Rio that it’s possible to book a ferry trip on the Mekong from Luang Prabang to Huay Xay—they mention about 8 hours. But is that realistic? What type of boat is it? Then, to get to Chiang Mai, there aren’t many options—bus or minivan—but how does crossing the border work?

Finally, for those of you who’ve been to Laos in August, what was the weather like? We’ve already visited Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia during the same period over the past four years and weren’t really bothered by bad weather.

Bonjour à toutes et à tous, Je suis en train de songer à l'éventualité d'un voyage au Laos en novembre ( j'hésite entre le Laos ... et l'Inde !!! ). Pour les questions pratiques, ce forum + un certain guide que je ne citerai pas sont plus que suffisants. Toutefois, je me pose la question de la fréquentation ... Je suis habitué aux destinations très peu touristiques ( coins reculés d'Indonésie par exemple), mais qu'en est-il du Laos ? Les touristes y sont-ils omniprésents ? Genre, dans une petite ville de province, en croise-t-on à tous les coins de rue ? Cela ne me gêne pas forcément, mais j'aimerais me faire une idée ... 1000 mercis !! 🙂

Bonjour à tous, je part le mois d'aout au Laos avec 2 amies. Nous sommes en train de faire notre itinéraire au plus précis avec les visites, les temps de trajet etc Nous avons donc plusieurs questions: -la boucle de thakhek sur 5 jours comporte beaucoup de grottes, est ce faisable en aout avec la moisson? ou l'eau est trop haute et on verra rien? (route impraticable en moto, grottes immergées) -même question pour les 4000 iles, y en a t ils qui sont immergées ou ça ne change rien? possibilité de voir des dauphins? Ensuite nous voulons faire la gibbon expérience à houei sai, notre soucis est pour la suite...on n' a pas beaucoup de temps (1mois pour le Laos c est court!) et on veut en voir un max. Nous aimerions savoir s'il y a un bus qui fait houei sai à pakmong et si les villages qu'on va louper "n'en valent pas trop la peine". Nous avons également vu qu il" faut passer" phongsaly mais que pour y aller c est la "galère" bus jusqu à oudom sai attente 1 journée pour l autre bus pour phongsaly. Notre but n'étant pas de passer notre vie dans les moyens de transport on ne sait pas trop si on fait houei sai/oudom sai/phongsaly ou si on "zape" le village pour gagner du temps et profiter de Muang ngoi /luang prabang/phonsavan... Aprés le choix va peut etre se faire autrement si les grottes sont invisitables on "gagne" 5 jours bref le tout est un peu lié. Je vous remercie par avance, en espérant que vous aurez des réponses.

Combiné Thaïlande – Cambodge – Laos durant 2 mois début 2021.

Bonjour, Nous prévoyons un voyage de 2 mois, du 15 janvier au 15 mars 2021, avec un AR Nice - Bangkok. Ce voyage sera un combiné Thaïlande – Cambodge – Laos. Nous comptons commencer par la région de Koh Tao durant 15 jours environ, où nous avons de la famille. Nous avons déjà visité la Thaïlande auparavant et nous ne comptons pas le refaire, sauf, après la région de Koh Tao, Bangkok et ses alentours. Puis de Koh Tao, nous pensons remonter sur Bangkok et immédiatement nous diriger vers la frontière du Cambodge, et visiter le Cambodge, que nous ne connaissons pas. Puis ensuite remonter ensuite sur le Laos, et visiter le Laos, que nous ne connaissons pas. Enfin, peut-être prendre un vol Louang Prabang (ou Vientiane) pour Bangkok vers le 11 mars avant notre retour en France. Nous venons vers vous et ce forum pour nous aider, avec votre expérience, à composer ce voyage. Rien n’est réellement figé. Mais nous avons l’habitude de l’Asie, pour la faire depuis 5 ans en formule sacs à dos et Guesthouses (nous sommes un couple de jeunes retraités assez sportifs). Merci de nous indiquer quel circuit nous pourrions faire, avec des visites variées ; nous aimons bien la nature, les paysages, les gens, et découvrir. Bonjour J'ai lu dans un post de ce forum que la vieille ville de Phrae valait le coup... pouvez-vous m'en dire plus et me conseiller un hébergement pas trop cher . Je pense peut-être faire escale dans cette ville lors de notre périple en Thaïlande en février prochain, nous utilisons les transports en commun et viendrons sans doute de Phitsanulok en bus. Pour ce périple, après moultes réflexions, j'hésite encore entre choisir une boucle Sukhotai, Phrae, Lampang, Chiang Mai et retour sur Bangkok avant de descendre vers le sud ou Sukhothai, Loei, Chiang Khan, Sang Khom, Nong Khai, retour Bangkok... We’re heading to Thailand in three weeks and will be in Chiang Rai right during the burning season... Will the stunning road between Chiang Rai and Pai still be beautiful? Are the landscapes green like we’d expect at this time of year, or are they dry with gray and brown mountains due to the drought? We were planning to rent a car, but that’s a lot of time we could spend elsewhere if it’s not worth it! Thanks for your help.

Hello, We’re heading to Thailand for 26 days (excluding flights) next July with our two teens (12 and 15 years old). My husband and I have been there several times before they were born—so that’s 15 years ago—and I’m a bit worried about some of the changes that might have happened since, especially with the rise in tourism... I’d also like to keep a pace that allows us to settle in a bit and enjoy local life beyond just the main sights. Plus, we’re pretty active. For now, our plan looks like this:

Arrival in Bangkok, where we’re thinking of spending several days (minimum 4) Chiang Mai for about a week 2 or 3 islands in the Gulf Return to Bangkok for 2 days before departure.

We’re pretty set on Bangkok and Chiang Mai, but we’re unsure about which islands to visit—I’ve read such mixed things that I’m even wondering if we should consider the coast instead. Organization-wise, I’d love any tips or feedback on whether we need to book in advance at this time of year, which transport options to prioritize (train, bus, or plane), and of course, any suggestions for stops or routes. Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to help us prepare for this amazing trip!

After a successful first trip in 2025, with the help of forum members, we’d love to return to this amazing cultural melting pot in 2026 for three weeks (2 adults, 2 kids aged 13 and 16).

We’d like to explore new places in the Northeast: fly into Khon Kaen and explore the region—Loei, Nong Khai, perhaps? A detour to the center to visit Sukhothai would be a great addition.

I’ll admit, planning this itinerary is a bit trickier for me since I’m less familiar with these areas and what they have to offer. The distances also seem longer than our previous transfers (BKK-Kanchanaburi-Kaeng Krachan-Sam Roi Yot...).

Do you have any suggestions or hidden gems to explore in the Northeast and Central regions that keep travel time between stops reasonable (3-4 hours)?

Nous sommes actuellement dans le Sud Est du Myanmar. Dans 3 ou 4 jours, nous allons prendre un bus pour rentrer en Thaïlande via la frontière terrestre de Mae Sot.

De là, nous souhaiterions passer entre 10 et 20 jours dans le Nord de la Thaïlande (nous avons déjà fait un séjour dans le sud plutôt axé sur les plages).

Quel itinéraire nous conseilleriez-vous ? Quels sont les incontournables ? Nous voyons revenir souvent Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai & Pai mais j'imagine qu'il y a bien plus que ça :)

Our flights are booked, and we’ll arrive in Thailand at the beginning of January.

Originally, we were supposed to spend 14 days there. But after booking the flights and seeing the prices, we’ll now be there for 20 days instead.

Our initial plan was: 2 days in Bangkok 1 day in Ayutthaya 4 days in Chiang Mai 6 days around Krabi

So we have 7 more days to fill. What do you recommend?

An extra day in Bangkok? Adding more days in the north? If so, where? Exploring another region, like Kanchanaburi or Cheow Lan Lake? Traveling north in stages instead of taking the overnight train?

A few extra details about us: For us, vacation isn’t about relaxation—we love walking, exploring, and packed days don’t bother us. Hiking for hours and doing active things is what makes us happy. That said, we also enjoy visiting villages and towns if they’re worth the detour. In Thailand, we’d like to visit temples too. We’re early risers, so our days tend to be long. 🙂 In short, we like to keep things moving during our trips. 😉

Unfortunately, seeing terraced rice fields isn’t possible in January. I read there are rice fields around Sukhothai. Are they green in January?

In the north, do you recommend Doi Inthanon, Huai Nam Dang, or Doi Chiang Dao National Parks? Which one is the most beautiful and best for January?

Hi, just a quick note mainly for Samsong, even if he’s still giving me the silent treatment. I’ve been in Nan since yesterday and... I love it! So thanks, Thierry. It’s exactly the kind of place I’d been dreaming of... Even if communication is a bit tough, it’s not impossible. They don’t even know the most basic English words! Everyone laughs and they’re the first to pull out their phones to... translate. They’re even quicker on the uptake than I am. And then there’s the time I say Nan (pronounced "Nane"). They don’t understand me. After a while (sometimes a long one), they reply: "Ah, Nan?" (pronounced "Nane") 😵🤳😃

The town is exactly how you described it back in 2022. Though I’m surprised to find so many trendy, slightly intellectual "Cafés." Apparently, coffee—excellent everywhere—is king in Nan. It feels like a university town. And it seems pretty lively at night! But for now, I’m going to bed early. I caught a nasty cold, which didn’t stop me from walking 12 km this morning. But I came back to my accommodation by 3 PM (gorgeous and luxurious with top-notch service for 800 baht—even a cute local welcome gift this morning, plus other unexpected touches like a bottle of honey and chrysanthemum flowers for tea. The lady must’ve guessed I was coming down with something yesterday). I thought about going out for dinner but didn’t have the energy. I think I’ve got at least 39°C fever...

Anyway, I’m sending you this message, Thierry, because you mentioned a daily bus to Chiang Rai, so I didn’t look into it. But now it’s a real problem—no buses to Chiang Rai, only taxis. At least 2,500 baht for the cheapest one! I’ll check the bus station directly tomorrow. Online, it’s all taxis, no buses. I’d like to explore the countryside/mountains if I can find an affordable driver. Any ideas for destinations or itineraries? Thanks.

Je prépare un périple après avoir passé la frontière birmane à Mae Sot, puis Mae Sariang, Chiang Mai, Thaton, descendre peut-être la rivière Kok jusqu'à Chiang Rai (en février, est-ce faisable?) , ensuite j'hésite entre Lampang, Phrae, et Nan, ces trois villes sont-elles intéressantes ou l'une est-elle plus à choisir que les autres? de plus ça multiplie les étapes... et nous voyagerons en bus, donc les connexions seront-elles faciles ? Si quelqu'un peut m'indiquer, en plus, des adresses de guest-houses ou petits hôtels pas trop chers (jusqu'à 800 Bts) dans ces différents lieux, ce serait super... Ensuite, nous continuerons par Sukhotai...

Hello, After a lot of searching, exchanging ideas, and thinking it over, I’ve decided to go back to my original plan of spending two weeks in Bangkok. From January 19th to February 2nd. I’ll also take a quick trip for one night/two days to Ayutthaya (and return to Bangkok, where I’ll have kept the apartment I booked), and possibly the same for Kanchanaburi, depending on how I feel once I’m there—whether I find something more interesting in Bangkok or nearby. The key word is: taking my time to take photos, observe, taste, savor (in every sense of the word), and most importantly, not rushing. Beyond the must-see tourist spots, I’d love to wander around the city and maybe within a 40 to 50 km radius for a day trip to discover unusual and lesser-known streets, houses, temples, markets, gardens, and more. I’ll also be spending two weeks in Chiang Mai and two weeks in Nan. I’m open to any suggestions. Thank you so much!

My friend and I are heading to Thailand for three weeks between December 14th and January 4th.

After a week of relaxation in the south by the beach, we plan to explore northern Thailand to see the mountains and discover the country’s history before wrapping up in Bangkok.

I’m torn about which region to explore. For convenience, we’ll arrive in Chiang Mai, spend a few days in the area, then head to Lampang, followed by Sukhothai, and finally Bangkok.

After Chiang Mai (1 or 2 days—I’m worried the period might be too crowded and we won’t enjoy it much), we’ll have 3 days and could go to: Mae Hong Son (with a potential return flight); Chiang Dao and Fang; or Nan province, though that seems a bit far for just 3 days. We could also spend only one day in Chiang Mai and have 4 days instead.

For these 3 (or 4) days between Chiang Mai and Lampang, we’d love to do some beautiful hikes, preferably on our own, and see stunning landscapes, nature, and small villages.

Among my options, which would you recommend? Or where can we find great hikes that we can do independently and that aren’t overrun by mass tourism? I’ll admit, I’m struggling to find info—there are lots of small national parks, but details are scarce, and even AllTrails doesn’t have much for some of them...

Just to clarify, we’re considering hiring a car with a driver if needed.

Bonjour - Mon mari et moi même vivons en Thailande depuis qqs années. Cette année, du au Covid, nous avons décidé de ne pas rentrer en Europe pour diverses raisons. Nous avons donc décidé de faire le tour de Thailande pendant 3 semaines ou 4 semaines au départ de Krabi où nous avons notre résidence secondaire. J'ai préparé un trajet, mais j aimerais avoir vos conseils Tout d abord conseillez vous de réserver les hotels ou BB au jour le jour - Nous avons envie de visiter à notre rythme, et rester sur place plus de nuits que prévues si le coeur nous en dit. Pouvez vous aussi, si vous êtes golfeur me dire où nous devrions nous poser plus longtemps afin de faire un petit parcours de golf. Voici le trajet auquel j ai pensé KRABI - Bang Saphan (2 nuits) - Sam Roi Yot - (2 nuits) - Kanchanaburi (2 nuits) - Chainat (1 nuit) - Mae Sot (2 nuits) - Lampang (1nuit) - Chiang Mai (3 nuits) - Chiang Rai (2 nuits) - Nan - (1 nuit) - Phitsalunok (3 nuits) - Loei (2 nuits) - Petchabun ou Chian Khan ou Sri Chiangmai (je suis un peu perdue par là ...... (2 nuits) - Hua Hin (qqs nuits) avant de reprendre la route vers Krabi.

Est ce envisageable ? Le nombre de nuits est il correct par rapport aux visites sur place

Bonjour à tous, Je pars en solo dans 15 jours pour 3 semaines en Thaïlande. Ça fait de nombreux mois que je me renseigne à l'aide de blogs et des forums sur les villes/îles/régions à voir mais je me perds et j'ai beaucoup de mal à sélectionner des lieux, et à 15 jours du départ je ne suis toujours pas fixée sur mon itinéraire. Je souhaite faire le nord et le sud. En ce qui concerne le sud, je suis plutôt au clair. Je pense y consacrer une semaine entre Khao Sok, Koh Tao et Koh Phangan. C'est pour le nord que je n'arrive pas tout à fait à me décider. Il reste donc 10-11 jours si on enlève 2 jours à Bangkok. Je précise que je me déplacerai en transports en commun et que je n'ai jamais conduit de scooter donc je ne pense pas en louer. Ce que je sais, c'est que je veux aller à Sukhotai et à Chiang Mai mais j'aimerais aussi voir d'autres endroits. Je précise que je ne veux pas faire que des temples car dans tous les cas j'en verrai un certain nombre dans les villes. Je suis à la recherche de nature, de beaux paysages, de petits villages authentiques. Je pense faire également un treck. Les autres endroits auxquels j'ai pensé sont bien sûr Chiang Rai, mais aussi Thathon, Mae Salong, le Doi Inthanon, Lampang, Patong, Phayao, Pai, Nan, Phrae, Khao Yai... Mais ce qui est certain, c'est que je ne pourrai pas aller partout, loin de là! Donc pour ceux qui connaissent le bord de la Thailande, pouvez vous m'aider à choisir, bien que nos goûts peuvent être différents ? Et comment répartir ce temps consacré au Nord? Je suis désolée pour cette question probablement compliquée, mais il est temps que je me decide et je bloque complètement ! Merci infiniment à ceux qui voudront bien m'aider 🙂

je prépare mon premier voyage en thailande début novembre je souhaite commencer par bangkok, puis me diriger vers le nord je pense, pour voir la fête des lumières, je reste en tout 21 jours sur place, est ce possible ( je pense que oui lol ) de rejoindre l'issan depuis chiang mai ?

je souhaite des vacances simples mais avec un certains confort, j'ai un budget d'environ 100 euros par jour, soit 2100 euros pour les 21 jours sur place

Sachant que - les plages c'est pas trop (du tout) mon truc - j'aime bien les villages, m'asseoir sur des marches et regarder la vie passer - j'adore les lacs, les paysages plats et apaisants (les montagnes un peu moins) - y a-t-il des regions tres fleuries au mois de mars?

Are there any buses that run between Phrae and Sukhothai? I can’t find anything very clear :(
