Troisième road trip en 4X4 en préparation pour Août, après 2007 et 2012 . Arrivée en milieu de journée a JNB le 29/07, pour plus de confort nuit sur place. Je pense attaquer directement par le KTP pour 4/5 jours que l'on adore, avec si possible deux nuits en satellite camp, souvenir d'une expérience inoubliable à Garaghab. C'est là que ça se complique, on aimerais bien aller faire un tour en Namibie ou au Botswana avant de finir par le Kruger pour encore 5/6 jours. Vol retour le 13/08 au départ de JNB.

Nous partons de fin décembre à fin janvier en AFS. Arrivée Joburg, départ du Cap.
Nous sommes attirés entre autre par le Lesotho et Kgalagadi.
Notre idée est un road trip évidemment mais nous hesitons entre location d'un 4x4 avec tente sur le toit (ds lequel je supose qu' il y aura un set pour cuisiner, c'est but ) ou voiture simple (tente ds le coffre).
Et sur l'itinéraire...j'imagine qu'il est judicieux de faire des liaisons en avion...
Bref si vous avez qqs blogs et qqs conseils, je suis preneuse.

We’re planning our second trip to South Africa in July 2026. In 2023, we did a loop from Joburg, Golden Gate, Drakensberg, Hluhluwe, St Lucia, Eswatini, Kruger, Blyde River Canyon, and back to Joburg. This time, we’d like to go to Cape Town and do a road trip to Port Elizabeth, then fly back to Joburg to return to Kruger. At this stage of my planning, here’s what it could look like:
D1 to D4: Cape Town and Cape of Good Hope (Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Waterfront, Bo-Kaap, Boulders, Cape Point, Chapman’s Peak Drive). I’ve spotted a few places to stay between Camps Bay and Hout Bay (3 nights). D5 and D6: Either Karoo NP or Hermanus and De Hoop. Any opinions to tip the scales? I’ll admit I’m already leaning toward Karoo (the "wild" vibe of the landscapes and wildlife encounters appeal to me much more than the seaside, which feels less exotic). If we go for Karoo, where should we stay? Inside the park or in Beaufort West? I’ve seen good reviews for Ko-ka Tsara Bush Camp, but maybe it’s better to stay in the Sanparks cottages to make the most of the park? (2 nights) Option B is to do Stellenbosch (though vineyards aren’t great in winter) and/or the Whale Route—Betty’s Bay, Hermanus, De Hoop (2 nights near Gansbaai). D7 and D8: Klein Karoo, Oudtshoorn. Staying at De Cango Guest Farm (2 nights). D9 and D10: Knysna, Robberg Nature Reserve, Tsitsikamma (2 nights in Plettenberg Bay and 1 night in PE). D11: Flight from Port Elizabeth to Joburg at 7 AM and drive to Marloth Park.
For Kruger, I’ve booked 2 nights in Marloth Park, 1 night in Skukuza, 2 nights in Satara, and 1 night in Talamati, which we loved. I’ll book the last night in Graskop later since we want to revisit the Blyde Canyon area.
I’d love all the feedback you can give on my itinerary, especially for days 5 and 6. If you have recommendations for accommodations for 4 people, I’d appreciate those too. Thanks! 🙂

Après avoir passé de nombreuses heures en votre compagnie pour définir notre voyage , je me dois de vous faire un retour pour aider ceux qui, comme moi , se pose 1001 questions . Nous étions 2 adultes et 2 enfants de 10 et 16 ans et nous avons loué un véhicule SUV pour toute la durée du séjour. Jour 0 : Arrivée vendredi 5 juillet à 18h au lieu 16h 10 au Cap Prise voiture réservé chez Tempest ( parfait rien à dire ) Installation Hotel Victorskloof lodge ( Houtbay ) Très bien en été, très humide au mois de juillet et pas de chauffage performant dans notre lodge . J. 1 samedi 6 juillet :Cap Town Visite de Boo koop et waterfront J 2 : Dimanche 7 Juillet :Robben Island et Botanical garden
J. 3 Lundi 8 juillet : Chapman Peak Drive /Boulder / Cap de BE – Très belle journée
J 4: Mardi 9 juillet : Nous avions prévu de visiter Table Montain ce matin car la météo est magnifique et nous surveillons la météo depuis notre arrivée pour trouver la meilleure journée. Manque de chance , le funiculaire est en maintenance depuis dimanche ……. Route Hermanus par la Whale route avec arret Betty’s Bay ( ne vaut pas la peine lorque l’on a vu Boulder . Aucune baleine en vue . Tant pis …Hotel Jakasa - Bien pour 1 nuit
Jour 5 Mercredi 10 juillet Nous avons quitté Hermanus par la wine route . Très sympa Oudtshoorn 360 km 4H - visiter une ferme d’autruche Nuit Studio Eldorado Private Collection bien A mon avis étape non indispensable sur 3 semaines
Jour 6 : Jeudi 11 juillet - 3h de route pour Tsitsikamma . le Site est absolument magnifique et sauvage. Nous ne regrettons pas d’avoir dormi à Storms river mouth
Jour 7: vendredi 12 juillet Route Tsitsikamma – East London ( dormir plutot à Cintsa ) 500km et 6h Nuit au Buccaners lodge
Jour 8 : Samedi 13 juillet : Route East London ( cintsa ) – à Port Edouard Nuit 21 at howard à Southbroom
2 longues journées de route. Lors de ma préparation, de nombreux forumeurs m’avaient plutôt conseillés de prendre l’avion pour rejoindre le Sud et me retrouver à Durban . Cependant, appréciant les roadtrip, nous avons apprécié ces 2 journées de routes, nous avons traversé des villages vraiment typiquement africains . Donc, si c’était à refaire, nous garderions ces 2 jours de route mais plutôt en 3 jours ( par exemple à la place de Oudtshoorn ).
Jour 9 : Dimanche 14 juillet route Port Edouard – St Lucia 400km 4h 20 Visiter la plage, Estuary beach et excursion sur l’ estuaire Nuit Ste Lucia – happy place @3
Jour 10: Lundi 15 juillet : St lucia - visite Isimangliso parc avec Cap vidal Nuit Ste Lucia –happy place @ 3
Ste Lucia est une étape très agreable :les sites à visiter sont superbes, et pour une fois on peut se promener dans les rues le soir pour aller au restaurant . Nous y serions bien resté 1 nuit de plus .
Jour 11: mardi 16 juillet route Ste Lucia - Hluhluwe / imflolozi Mpila Camp
Jour 12 : mercredi 17 juillet visite Hluhluwe / Imfolozi : émerveillé par notre 1er safari . Hluhluwe Ama zuluguesthouse and safari
Jour 13 jeudi 18 juillet : Route Swaziland 264 Km 5h16 Bk lodge à Mbabane
Jour 14 : vendredi 19 juillet : Swaziland Matin :Visite cultural village mantega nature réserve, shopping d’artisanat l’ après midi.
Jour 15 : samedi 20 juillet Ezulwini - route Krugger – Berg en dal 172km 3h
Jour 17 : lundi 22 juillet Krugger Santara Rest camp
Jour 18 : mardi 23 juillet Sortie Krugger par Phalaborwa Gate nuit à Hoedspruit Loerie Guesthouse
Jour 19 : mercredi 24 juillet Hoedspruit – Abel erasmus pass – Route panoramique 95km Blyde river Canyon Nuit Graskop autumn Breeze and lodge A mon avis , cette étape pourrait être supprimé pour profiter d’un jour de plus au Krugger. Nous habitons dans les Hautes Pyrénées et donc cette étape de montagne nous parût bien fade à côté du parc Krugger .
Jour 20 : jeudi 25 juillet : Route Johannesbourg – Nuit Génésis hotel suite
Jour 21 : visite Johannesbourg et Soweto avec guide Nuit Génésis hotel suite
Voici les questions qui m'ont triturée l'esprit et voici mon humble avis sur la question .
Le paludisme: Nous étions très inquiets et ne voulant prendre aucun risque nous avons pris le traitement nécessaire. Mon médecin nous a prescrit à mon grand fils et moi de la Doxycycline , mon mari a quant à lui pris la version générique de la Malarone et ma fille s'est vu prescrire du Lariam ( pour lequel j'étais contre et très paniquée à l' idée de lui administrer cela ) . Au final, nous prenions notre traitement au petit déjeuner et nous avons très bien supporté. Nous avions imbibé nos vêtements ( 2 weeks end à faire cela )... Pour , au final, ne croiser aucun moustique tout le long de notre périple .
Le Climat: Les journées les plus froides étaient à CAP Town avec une quinzaine de degré mais une humidité et un vent qui doivent faire descendre le ressenti à 10°C , mais si le soleil sort, cela peut monter à 20°C . Donc prévoir des vêtements avec plusieurs couches à enlever au fur et à mesure de la journée. Le problème, c'est que les logement ne sont pas bien équipé en chauffage donc le problème pour le soir dans les logements , il y fait un peu humide et froid.
Ensuite au fur et à mesure que l'on remonte vers le Nord, la température devient plus douce et atteint une vingtaine de degrés à Ste Lucia et nous avons eu jusqu' à 35°C au Krugger et environ 17 ° le soir .
En ce qui concerne les baignades, mes enfants se sont baignés à Isimanglio ( océan ) et dans la piscine à Ste Lucia.
Hébergement: Très grands appartement , toujours très bien équipés, souvent petite cuisine et lorsqu'il n'y a pas de cuisine, vous avez toujours un petit frigo et bouilloire dans la chambre avec du café et du thé à votre disposition pour des prix entre 60 et 80€ , prévoir 100€ dans les Camps. Toujours un excellent accueil avec des hôtes qui avaient à cœur de nous faire plaisir ( idem dans les restaurants )
Nourriture : Rien de typique, mais nous nous sommes régalés de viandes de bonne qualité, des poissons délicieux, ou de bons burgers toujours servies en mode gourmand pour 8 €, 10€ . Nous faisions un repas resto et un repas au supermarché ( salade, traiteur, fruits ) .
Sécurité: Voici un point qui m'a valu beaucoup d'inquiétude. Alors avons nous ressenti de l'insécurité ? ( je précise que nous sommes habitué à voyager, Asie, Amérique centrale, USA ... ) Il ne nous est rien arrivé de fâcheux, nous n'avons été témoin d'aucune manifestation d'insécurité, pourtant nous avons ressenti un climat social tendu, douloureux et nous avons été doublement vigilent ( pas de sortie le soir par exemple, même pour rejoindre le resto sauf à ste Lucia ). Sur la route entre Ste Lucia et Imfolozi, nous avons roulé pendant une vingtaine de km sur une route ou étaient en train encore de bruler des pneus, où les barrières de sécurité étaient pliées , des morceaux de verres jonchaient la route. C'était vraiment particulier !
Alors pour conclure, l' ADS est vraiment une magnifique découverte, nous avons été bluffés par la flore et la faune, pouvoir approcher de si près les animaux et les fameux Big Five, c'est vraiment magique et un voyage en AFS est une expérience à vivre rien que pour cela. La suite de l' apartheid et la situation sociale ne nous a pas laissé indifférent . l' AFS nous a ouvert des portes que nous n'osions pas ouvrir, je suis prête maintenant à découvrir, la Namibie et les autres pays frontaliers .

Before entering Kruger Park, we’re planning a stop in Graskop on the way from Johannesburg, then spending two nights at Hippomoon Lodge.
I’ve mapped out the following route for a single day between Graskop and Hippomoon Lodge, but I’m wondering if it’s a bit too packed?😐
Visit the Blyde River Canyon in a full day – approx. 180 km / 2h40 drive, leaving Graskop at 8:30 AM:

- ???Hike starting from Blyde Canyon: A Forever Resort / the guinea fowl trail / Lower viewpoint
- Entry to Swadini for a Boat Cruise on the Blyde River (boat excursion in the Blyde Canyon)

Je viens vers vous pour avoir des suggestions concernant notre premier voyage en Afrique du Sud au mois de Mars prochain. Nous sommes un couple avec un bébé qui aura 16 mois au moment du voyage. Nous avons déjà réservé nos billets d'avion, nous avons pris un billet multi-destinations avec une arrivée au Cap et un départ de Port Elizabeth. Nous louerons donc une voiture, pour l'instant j'ai repéré Tempest car hire qui a de bons tarifs.
Je ne suis qu'au tout début de mes recherches, donc j'ai sûrement oublié des étapes, je n'ai pas encore écumé toutes les conversations du forum 😛 Si certains ont des petits avis, ça pourra m'aider à orienter mes recherches. Comme nous sommes avec bébé, nous souhaitons bien sûr ne pas trop nous presser.

Je viens vers vous pour avoir des suggestions concernant notre premier voyage en Afrique du Sud au mois de Mars prochain. Nous sommes un couple avec un bébé qui aura 16 mois au moment du voyage. Nous avons déjà réservé nos billets d'avion, nous avons pris un billet multi-destinations avec une arrivée au Cap et un départ de Port Elizabeth. Nous louerons donc une voiture, pour l'instant j'ai repéré Tempest car hire qui a de bons tarifs.
Je ne suis qu'au tout début de mes recherches, donc j'ai sûrement oublié des étapes, je n'ai pas encore écumé toutes les conversations du forum 😛 Si certains ont des petits avis, ça pourra m'aider à orienter mes recherches. Atterrissage à Johannesburg, direction Blyde River Canyon, Kruger, Swaziland, Santa Lucia, Lesotho et ensuite direction Cap Town en longeant la côte.
J'aurai aimé avoir plus de renseignement sur le temps de route entre Santa Lucia et le Lesotho. J'ai loué une voiture de type ford fiesta mais pas de 4*4. Peut-on faire la route en 1 jour entre Santa Lucia et lesotho (ou je n'ai pas de réservation pour le moment) ou faut il faire une pause entre les deux destinations ?

I’m in the middle of planning our trip/safari to Kruger in October:
- 2 nights in the Manyeleti private reserve (Honeyguide Montobeni)
- 2 nights in Kruger for a self-drive safari (which reserve, or where to stay?)
- 1 night at Blyde River Canyon (where?)
- 2 nights in the Balule private reserve (Imagine Africa Luxury)
Then heading to CAPE TOWN.
So as you’ve probably guessed, I’m not sure:
- where to stay for the BRC and need lodge names
- coming from Manyeleti and heading to the BRC, which strategic spot in greater Kruger to choose (I was thinking Satara, not too far) but couldn’t find any available places for October on Sandparc
- and which domestic flight destination for Manyeleti from JNB (Hoedspruit?) to arrive at Orpen Gate,
- And same question for which airport to fly out to Cape Town after Balule.

We’ll start in Cape Town (tickets already booked) since it seems like a good time to visit this region—except for the whales in Hermanus, which we won’t be seeing. Oh, and I almost forgot, we’re renting a car for both legs of the trip for more freedom.

My husband is offering me the chance to take a self-drive trip in South Africa in July 2025. It’s a dream of mine—we’ve never been to Africa before, but we’ve regularly driven on the left side of the road before ;-) I’ve already booked the hotels and a rental car for a 3-week family trip (my husband and our 19-year-old son). But after talking to some acquaintances, I’ve been warned about the risks of carjacking, theft, scams by fake police, and even kidnapping… basically, a pretty apocalyptic picture of the region!!! I’ve already carefully read the recommendations from embassies and foreign affairs offices. Our itinerary would start at Johannesburg Airport with a rental car, sticking to main roads and avoiding night driving. First stop: Blyde River Canyon (exploring the area), then heading to Kruger National Park (one week), entering through the Numbi or Phabeni Gate and exiting via Crocodile Bridge to reach Eswatini (stopping at Mlilwane Sanctuary) before continuing to St. Lucia (a few days there). From St. Lucia, we’ll go to Durban to catch a flight to Cape Town. There, we’ll spend a few days with a rental car in the Camps Bay area. What do you think? I know there’s no such thing as zero risk (you could even fall out of bed!), but I don’t want to spend the whole trip on edge, constantly worried about being attacked or putting my family in danger. During vacations, we take a lot of photos—I know we shouldn’t flaunt valuables, but photography is a big part of our trips… Should we postpone this trip to a "quieter" time? If you can shed some light, I’d really appreciate it—I’m feeling a bit lost…

After going through a good chunk of the forum and travel journals about South Africa, I think my itinerary is ready...
I’ve planned 2 days with long drives to minimize time spent outside the parks. These are Sunday the 18th: Johannesburg Airport to Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Reserve, and Friday the 23rd: St. Lucia to Nelspruit (staying in South Africa) or as close as possible to visit the Canyon the next day.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the itinerary, especially these 2 days—are they doable or not? Should I book in advance, or will there be places to sleep along the way if we don’t make it to our planned destination? What’s the crowd level in South Africa in October?
As for Kruger, I’ve chosen campsites with camping facilities, prioritizing the "satellite" camps, at least in the northern part!! I’ve planned to change camps almost every day to combine travel and wildlife spotting, but is this the right choice?

Nous avons des billets Paris / Le Cap aller-retour. Nous allons passer 2 à 3 jours au Cap puis allons louer une voiture pendant 30 jours.
J'ai plusieurs questions à poser à ceux qui connaissent le pays : 1 - Nous voyageons "lentement". Est-ce que nous aurons le temps d'aller jusqu'au Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park ? ou est-ce que vous nous conseillez de rester dans les régions du Cap Occidental et du Cap Oriental ? 2. Nous arrivons au Cap vers 23 h. Est-ce que vous nous conseillez de réserver un hôtel près de l'aéroport et d'y aller avec la navette de l'hôtel ou de réserver un hôtel dans le centre et d'y aller en taxi ? 3. Nous allons louer une voiture de type "berline moyenne". Est-ce que nous pourrons rouler sur des routes non goudronnées ou est-ce qu'il y a, comme en Australie, une clause qui l'interdit ? 4. Nous conseillez-vous d'emporter du matériel de camping pour dormir dans les parcs ? (tente, sacs de couchage, matériel de cuisine)

First off, I’d like to thank everyone on this forum for their great tips—they really helped us plan this trip!
The trip: We spent 15 days between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, then a week around Kruger (including Blyde River Canyon). We found South Africans to be welcoming and always ready to help. We never felt unsafe (just followed basic safety rules). The police are very visible, especially on the roads.
Logistics: We’d booked our accommodations in advance but made a few changes on the spot based on how we felt at the time. We rented two vehicles from Firefly (Hertz). No complaints—recent cars, quick returns, and the deposit wasn’t charged. We’d gotten our international driver’s permits... which stayed in France! Luckily, no one asked for them. Driving on the left wasn’t an issue (it wasn’t our first time). The roads we took were in good, even great, condition. Only a few tracks to lodges or parks were rough and required extra caution. Lots of pedestrians on the sides of roads, even highways. And plenty of very slow trucks. But they pull over to let you pass. It’s also common for cars to cross into the opposite lane to overtake, even with white lines. We took two domestic flights: one early in the morning (Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth) and one in the late afternoon (Cape Town to Johannesburg) to save time.
We had some highlights and a few disappointments—all part of the journey! More details coming soon.

I’d love to get your thoughts on our route and specifically on two points:
- The time spent at each stop: does any seem too short or too long?
- The domestic flights: do you think they’re a good choice? (Flight from Kruger to Durban + Durban to Port Elizabeth) We’ll rent a car each time we land. Or is it better to do the whole trip by car?

Je dois me rendre de Cradock à Hluhluwe-Imfolozy soit environ 1100 km que je compte faire avec une étape en octobre. Mon problème est de savoir qu'elle route emprunter. Soit au nord du Lesotho soit au sud. Vos expériences seraient les bienvenues. La nature de la route, les paysages traversés sont les données à prendre en compte bien évidemment. Soit au nord du Lesotho soit au sud. Vos expériences seraient les bienvenues. La nature de la route, les paysages traversés sont les données à prendre en compte bien évidemment. First question: We're leaving Kruger Park from Olifants camp to head to BRC.
I know the drive is long (about 4 hours, especially since I think the part through the park will be slow due to animals). We're exiting the park via Phalaborwa Gate, but I can't find a map, so it's hard to tell if we'll arrive at the top of the Canyon or via Graskop to then drive up the Panorama Route.
Second question: I booked 1 night at Forever Resort, but if we arrive from the top and then drive down the Panorama Route, I'm not sure that's the best choice.
Third question: Since we're leaving Kruger early in the morning, I think we can plan to explore the area in the afternoon. We'll sleep there, and then we need to be at our lodge in the Balule private reserve by late morning (Imagine Africa) to catch the afternoon safari. I'm worried it might be too short if we want to do a boat trip on the dam! What do you think? Should I add another night? It's still possible since I haven't planned the rest yet, and we have 7 nights left in Cape Town, including Hermanus! Do you think I should cut short the Cape Town stay? If so, I could break the BRC trip into two parts—one night after leaving Kruger before the private safari, and then come back this way (since it's not too far, I think) after the two nights on safari before heading to Cape Town. But how can I organize the visits logically?

For her 70th birthday, my mom will receive—as a gift—a trip to South Africa at the end of May 2025. We’ll arrive and depart (13 nights later) from JNB on Air France AF990/AF995. We’ll obviously rent a car for certain parts of the trip. I’ve been to the Cape Town area and as far as Agulhas twice, but she’s never been to South Africa before. She might enjoy a day or two of safari, but it’s not a priority for her. I’m well aware that trying to pack in too much is risky, which is why I’m looking for your advice on itineraries, safety, and health (status of the Marburg virus). So far, which combinations of these visits (in no particular order) would be doable and most enjoyable for her at a reasonable pace:
1-day excursion to Pilanesberg Park (+ Hartbeespoort on the way back if possible), self-drive or with a tour guide? 2 nights around the Panorama Route self-driving Garden Route from/to George/PLZ for 5 nights (what are the must-sees for a first-timer with so little time?) Wine region for 2 nights (is it worth doing both the Stellenbosch bus tour and the Franschhoek Wine Tram the next day, or vice versa)—she loves good wine! J1 : arrivée à midi au Cap J2/3/4 : Le Cap et sa région (nous logeons à Houtbay) J5: Vol vers Durban et nuit au Mpila camp J6/7/8:Nuits à Ste Lucia (excursion baleines au programme) J9:nuit à Tembe J10:route vers Kruger et nuit à l'entrée du Kruger J11/12/13:Kruger (nuits à Lower sabie/Satara et Talamati) J14: Départ du Kruger et nuit à Soweto J15: Vol retour à 18H00 (vélo à Soweto le matin)
Il a fallu faire des choix (zapper le Swaziland, l'essentiel de Blyde river ...)
Quelques questions en vrac:
-Pour Tembe, nous n'aurons pas de 4 roues motrices mais nous logeons dans le parc. Est-ce qu'il y a la possibilité au camp de se faire véhiculer jusqu'au Hyde si on le désire ? ou à certaines heures imposées?
-Pour la région du Cap , nous n'aurons que 3,5 jours sur place . La visite de Robben Island est au programme (c'est un incontournable pour deux enfants) et une journée sur la Péninsule. Reste à faire un choix dans les multiples autres activités (nage avec les otaries, Table moutain, Lions Head etc...) Pour certains les jardins de Kirstenbosh apparaissent incontournables.Ils valent le coup en Juillet ?
-Au Kruger, je vais réserver un morning walk : cela vous semble préférable à Lower Sabie ou Satara ?

I’ve been drawing inspiration from several posts on the forum. I’d like to book our flight tickets and nights in Kruger Park as soon as possible since that’s the most urgent part to finalize, if I understood correctly.

Découverte puis nuit soit dans le Park ou à proximité (avis souhaité) Mercredi 29 janvier - matin découverte d'ADDO puis départ vers Schotia (arrivée 14:45) pour safaris et nuit Jeudi 30 janvier - Safari à Schotia tôt le matin - découverte vers 10h pour la Garden Route - (activités à creuser)- Nuit à Storms River ou Nature's Valley Vendredi 31/01 - Balade le long de la Garden Route - nuit à Wilderness (activités à creuser) Samedi 01/02 - découverte Oudtshoorn - Prince Albert - Swartberg Pass - Nuit à Calitzdorp Dimanche 02/02 - En route vers les vignobles - Déjeuner à Boschendal - nuit à Franschhoek Lundi 03/02 - Babylonstoren - Stellenbosch et là dilemme soit nuit au Cap ou à Hermanus (si en février cela vaut le coup) Mardi 04/02 au vendredi 07/02 - Le Cap. The plane should land on Saturday around 11 AM. After collecting luggage and the car, I think we’ll leave the airport between 1 and 2 PM. Question #1: Where should we stop along the way, allowing some buffer time so we don’t end up driving at night if the flight is delayed? (The idea isn’t to sightsee but just to take a break while making progress toward Kruger.)
We’ll spend part of Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (a little over 4 days) in Kruger. Questions #2 and beyond: What route should we take? I’ve considered two options: either enter from the south (Malelane Gate?) and head north up to the Olifants area to exit at Orpen Gate. How many accommodations should we book in this case, and where? Or enter at Orpen Gate and exit near Hazyview (or the other way around, and near Hazyview, should it be Paul Kruger Gate or Phabeni?). In this case, it would allow us to spend 2 nights in one place and 2 in another, but we’d skip the south (or is it possible to visit it in a day?) Well, for accommodations (accessible by sedan), all suggestions are welcome… but I’ve checked October availability, and there aren’t many left 😕 I plan to spend Thursday in the park and exit before it closes to sleep outside, which would save time the next day for the drive to the airport. I was thinking of Hazyview (again, no sightseeing since we already visited the area in 2009), but do you have another/better idea?

Regarding Kruger bookings, it seems (I lost my old notes when my hard drive crashed—I backed up work documents but not vacation ones, what a mess!) that you can monitor reservations, and if a preferred accommodation becomes available, you can book it and cancel the old one. Is that still the case? (And is it easy to do?)

For clarity, here’s a summary of the Kruger part: Day 1: Arrival in Johannesburg and drive to ? Day 2: Enter Kruger (likely late morning or early afternoon) Days 3, 4, and 5: Kruger with exit at the end of Day 5 Day 6: Drive to the airport for the Cape Town and surrounds portion
Regarding Kruger bookings, it seems (I lost my old notes when my hard drive crashed—I backed up work documents but not vacation ones, what a mess!) that you can monitor reservations, and if a preferred accommodation becomes available, you can book it and cancel the old one. Is that still the case? (And is it easy to do?)
Thanks in advance for your answers. I’m off to reread travel journals about Cape Town and will probably be back with more questions (the accommodation availability issue seems less urgent there, so less of a priority).

Mon conjoint et moi avons effectué en novembre dernier notre premier périple en Afrique, en Namibie. Un merveilleux voyage de plus de 3 semaines qui aujourd’hui encore me laisse rêveuse et un peu dépitée à l’idée que je ne retrouverai probablement jamais un voyage similaire procurant un tel sentiment de liberté et de bonheur, avec des paysages de dingue et des safaris en prime. Lors de ce voyage mon conjoint m’a demandée en mariage, je suis donc en pleine prospection pour l’organisation du voyage de noces! 😎
Nous aimerions dans l’idéal part fin mai / début juin 2021 (sachant que ce n’est pas figé), pour une durée de 2 semaines en Afrique Australe. Nous rejoindront ensuite les plages - sûrement Maurice ou Seychelles - pour une dernière semaine). L’idée serait de louer un 4x4 (sûrement avec tente sur le toit).
J’ai pensé à un itinéraire démarrant au Kgalagadi (j’étais déçue de ne pas l’avoir inclus dans notre voyage en Namibie) et terminant aux Victoria falls, en passant par le Delta de l’Okavango et Chobe sur environ 2 semaines. Je n’ai pas encore bien peaufiné l’itinéraire, l’idée serait surtout dans un premier temps d’avoir vos retours sur la faisabilité d’un tel parcours en 2 semaines. L’autre option serait de suivre un itinéraire du Cap à Kgalagadi.
Les deux itinéraires vous semblent-ils faisables sur 2 semaines? Y en a-t-il un à privilégier? Je trouve peu de récits concernant le premier parcours de Kgalagadi aux chutes, peut-être que ce n’est pas la meilleure option?

Hi,
We arrive in Johannesburg (Tambo) at 8:30 in the morning. Do you think we’ll have enough time to catch the 10:30 flight to Hoedspruit, or is it better to play it safe and take the next one at 11:40? The earlier flight would work better for us, but what if the plane is delayed 😕? Plus, we have to collect checked baggage!

Avec mon épouse nous avon 15 jours de congés fin janvier. On ne savait pas Trop où partir et en voyant des prix interessants pour Johannesburg je me dis pourquoi pas ....
Mais déjà le premier hic.., le temps j ai lu que c etait la saison des pluies et que ce n etait pas forcément la meilleur période...du coup si vous avez des expériences à cette période je suis tout ouie.
Du coup sur 12 jours, on se ferait tranquillement Johannesburg, Pretoria, le Kruger et éventuellement le pilansberg. On peut se deplacer en bus ou train ou faut il louer une voiture? D apres ce que j ai compris le parc kruger peut se faire en solo....ca se fait bien?

J'ai une question concernant le permis de conduire. Nous avons décidé de partir un peu en dernière minute en Afrique du Sud (premier voyage depuis looongtemps !).
J'ai fait la demande pour le permis international mais étant donné les délais d'attente, il n'y a que très peu de chances qu'il arrive d'ici à notre départ la semaine prochaine.
J'ai lu sur les différents fils qu'il valait mieux dans ce cas avoir un permis traduit par les traducteurs assermentés répertoriés sur le site de l'ambassade. Pas vraiment pour les loueurs qui sont peu regardants qu'en cas de contrôle de police.
Pourtant, concrètement sur les nouveaux permis il n'y a littéralement ... que le titre à traduire. D'où ma question à laquelle je n'ai pas réussi à trouver de réponse claire sur les autres fils de conversation :
==> faut-il faire traduire ce nouveau permis (parce que ça représenterait un document officiel) même s'il n'y a littéralement que "permis de conduire, République Française" à traduire ?

Is it better to go during the first half of October, the second half (or the middle 😏), or does the current unpredictable weather make it all pretty much the same in the end?
