Hi everyone, I have to leave for Canada and I’ve got a layover at Paris CDG. A friend of mine will be at the airport to see me. What are the options for us to meet up? Can she access my terminal (T2E), or can I leave the international zone?

Hi there, Where are you departing from? How much time do you have between your two flights? Do you have a single ticket for the entire journey or two separate tickets?
Cordialement, Patrick.
HO Hortencia45 ·
I’m leaving from Côte d’Ivoire, with an 8-hour layover and two tickets on the same airline, Air France (Côte d’Ivoire-France and France-Canada).
PA Patrick91230 Globetrotter ·
So you have 2 separate tickets with AF. In principle, since it's the same airline operating the entire journey, your checked baggage should go all the way to Canada if you present both tickets at the AF check-in desk. You won’t need to collect them in Paris, so you won’t leave the international zone—meaning you won’t be able to see your friend. However, since you have 2 separate tickets, you *can* check your baggage only as far as Paris with the first ticket. You’d then collect your bags in Paris, enter the Schengen zone (border police), so you’ll need a Schengen visa if you’re Ivorian. After that, you’ll have to recheck your baggage for the France/Canada flight at least 2 hours before departure to be safe, then go through border police again.
Cordialement, Patrick.

Good evening,

If the passenger is in order to enter the Schengen area, in this case France, I don’t see what would prevent her from doing so for a few hours, even if her luggage is checked through to the final destination. What problem do you foresee?

Good evening, She didn’t mention having a visa to enter the Schengen Area, which is why I think she asked, "Do I need to leave the international zone?" That’s why I answered just in case. If she has a visa, no problem, of course, or if she’s a citizen of a European country that’s part of the Schengen Area.
Cordialement, Patrick.

Alright. Your answer wasn’t clear, or maybe I’m just tired. Have a good evening.

If I can't see her, can she see me? I don’t know if there’s another way. She still has a valid France visa just in case.
PA Patrick91230 Globetrotter ·
No, she won’t be able to access the international zone if she doesn’t have a flight ticket departing from your Terminal 2E.
Cordialement, Patrick.

I also found out there are hotels in Terminal 2E. Since it’s a layover, is it possible to book the hotel, and then could she meet me there? Is it possible to access the airport hotel if you’re not traveling?
PA Patrick91230 Globetrotter ·
No, because this hotel (the Yotelair) is in the transit zone (International Terminal 2E). She won’t be able to access that area without a flight ticket.
Cordialement, Patrick.

So there’s really no way to meet up?

get a short-stay visa but it won’t be easy!
PA Patrick91230 Globetrotter ·
No, either you have a visa to leave the international zone, or she has a flight ticket departing from this terminal.
Cordialement, Patrick.
