Hi, I have a question about Flying Blue Gold and Platinum status. From what I understand, once you reach Platinum status, if you don’t earn another 300 XP within a year, the XP counter resets to 0, and you stay at Gold the following year. But after that, you drop to the lower level if you don’t reach 180 XP. So, wouldn’t it make more sense to stay Gold, with, say, 290 XP, where the counter drops to 110 XP, meaning you’d only need 70 XP to maintain Gold?

Stay 1 year Platinum and 1 year Gold, or 2 years Gold? That's a good question that'll depend on your future trips. If you're planning a significant drop in your travels in year N+3, then yes, this solution will let you smooth out your frequent traveler status usage over the long term (especially since the difference between Gold and Platinum is minimal).

It really depends on whether you actually need the Platinum status, which offers limited additional benefits compared to Gold status. I’d actually agree with this strategy—trying to maintain Gold status without exceeding the 300 XP threshold. In my opinion, the real advantage of Platinum status over Gold is the ability to retain it for 10 consecutive years without interruption, which then grants you lifetime Platinum. To achieve that, you’d need to travel quite a bit over those 10 years or at least dedicate a certain budget to buying XP. I’ve listed all the available options for buying XP here.

The dedicated Platinum phone line is also a significant perk. When dealing with complex issues, their agents can work "miracles".🙂
