That’s exactly it—it was that little port that won us over! No doubt about it! I had written down Imerditfane... But...
MI Milo53 Regular ·
I was also given the name Imerditsene... These are just small variations. But it's the same site! You come across these different spellings from time to time in Morocco. At first, it threw us off a bit, but now we know...
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
It’s like Tafedney, Tafedna, Fedna... The first time, we drove past the sign without turning. It wasn’t the name we had on our Michelin map! Oh well!

Good evening, I’d like to add my compliments and thanks to all the ones you’ve received. I’m circling back to one part of your trip: the "blue tagines." Your host took you on a walk to pick up fossils, and you posted some photos of shells. Didn’t they mention a site near Imsouane with ammonites that are exceptional for their size? It might be protected now. Thanks again, have a great evening.
DA Danouck Regular ·
Hi Michel, I haven’t heard about ammonites, but it’s quite possible they’re there—why not! I think I’ll go back to that little corner of Morocco. We were told about souks we didn’t have time to see and a small inner circuit that seemed particularly interesting... So, we’re hoping to check all that out as soon as we can! Have a great day
SO Songhai73 Globetrotter ·
hi thanks, I’ll note that! I was thinking of doing this route in October... but we’ll wait! francia

hi there thanks for this wonderful trip! I’ve been a bit absent from the forum these past few weeks! I thought I had corona, but no—just a nasty bronchitis! I’ve taken good note of all these shared tips and will aim for 2021 if all goes well! Anyway, I’m so over this lockdown! have a great last week, everyone! francia

Oh my dear, COVID won’t get the better of you—you’re too tough! Get well soon, and maybe see you soon on the trails of the Anti-Atlas.

Good evening, Thanks for your reply. My question wasn’t very relevant since the fossil site you mentioned is quite far from where you stayed. Sorry for my curiosity—I caught the mineral and fossil bug when I was young in Morocco, and I’m still not over it! 😊 Your travel journal made me want to revisit that part of the Atlantic coast, which I only saw in passing. Maybe one day. I’ve already planned a loop toward the east, following part of your route—the picturesque N 307. September or October?... Until then, let’s keep dreaming. Have a great evening.
DA Danouck Regular ·
Thanks Francia, get well soon. Spring is here, the end of lockdown is near. Stay positive!
DA Danouck Regular ·
Route 307 is stunning. Take your time and drive slowly because it’s not in great condition. As for Magdaz, it’s a pure marvel of Berber architecture, and if you can, try to be there Monday morning to check out the souk. It’s amazing! And curiosity isn’t just a bad habit—far from it!
LI Livi Regular ·
Good evening, I appreciate your kindness and the information. I always plan for a rural souk, and I’ve noted the one in Magdaz on Mondays. Coming from France with my vehicle gives me more flexibility to organize my schedule. You’re making my mouth water... but also twisting the knife! 😋😋😭 We were thinking of heading to Morocco at the end of May... Best regards

hi there I think we're all a bit disappointed we can't go back to Morocco yet! I had planned a trip in October with friends... postponed until spring 2021! I might start a little post with just photos of Morocco! whoever loves me, follow me! It’ll give us a little or big stroll, depending on how many of us contribute! Just photos and an explanation of the place! thanks! francia

Hi there, Great news: you're back in shape and full of plans!!! An excellent idea: everyone digs into their archives. A challenge for me: many of my old photos are still in print. Best regards.

What a great time I had following you from one stop to the next. Each one as beautiful as the last. Incredible Morocco! Thanks for taking the time to share your itinerary with us.

Even we would have a hard time saying which of these stops delighted us the most. We really feel like we had a lovely trip.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
Magdaz could easily be at the top of my list for stops, because collective granaries fascinate me. Each one is different—such rich history, whether made of earth or stone, perched by a wadi, at the village’s highest point, or carved into a cliff... Always impressive! And to think, at first, I didn’t even realize they were everywhere around me.
DA Danouck Regular ·
These granaries are stunning, and without the forum, we definitely would've missed them. What a shame that would've been! Thanks Daniel, and thanks to Darzel too for showing us these well-hidden treasures.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
If you loved the granaries, you’ll have to go all the way to Amtoudi... The site is extraordinary, and the fortress granaries there are impressive.
DA Danouck Regular ·
Thanks Jean. I’ll note this new address. I checked where it’s located—it’s pretty far south. But if it’s worth it...
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
It's a bit south of Tafraoute, if you know it.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
It's about a hundred kilometers from Tafraoute. A really beautiful region. One of my favorites in Morocco. Another one!
DA Danouck Regular ·
Reading all of your posts, I think I’ll have to plan several getaways to Morocco in the coming years. It’ll be tough to do everything in 3 or 4 weeks. The distances from north to south are significant, so some choices will inevitably have to be made.
VE Vero3000 Regular ·
When we can't wander around Morocco just yet, we wander through travel forums and polish up our future itineraries. It's the start of the journey.
DA Danouck Regular ·
Absolutely! And that’s a positive thing!

Hi Danielle, I forgot to ask if you’d visited the old sugar refinery near Ida Ougourd. It’s something really surprising in Morocco. I stopped by there a few years ago. I’ll try to dig up some photos from an old hard drive... Hope you’re staying safe during the lockdown.
DA Danouck Regular ·
No, I didn’t see the sweet shop, but I think I did read something about it in a brochure we had at the riad. That’s also where we saw the salt flats mentioned. Have a great day.
MI Milo53 Regular ·
Here’s the sugar refinery—or what’s left of it. It’s been abandoned for a long time and apparently only operated for about twenty years until the early 17th century. The road to get there is in great condition.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
I’m noting this visit for my next trip. Thanks.

Thanks Danielle for sharing this story and these gorgeous photos.

With you, I was back in Morocco—again, because I just spent 2 months there, February/March 2020—but it’s impossible to get tired of this amazing country and its wonderful people. Of course, I’m heading back next winter... :-)

Thanks for this photo. It's another era. With a certain charm. Have a nice Sunday.
DA Danouck Regular ·
It's a vast country with extraordinary and incredibly diverse landscapes. And the people are so generous and welcoming. You just can't get enough of it, that's for sure! Happy Sunday.
MI Milo53 Regular ·
Yes, those days are gone—maybe less charm, but mechanization has made the work easier.
TR Trostang Globetrotter ·
Plowing the land with a wooden plow is still quite common in Morocco, but seeing a woman doing this work is less frequent.
HA Hannahannah Globetrotter ·
I saw women doing this near Igherm, actually.

I have photos taken in 1996 of these women. Could this be related to the region?

Thanks Danielle. I’ll keep the phone number.

hi there

yes, Amtoudi is a must-see for me in the south! I stay there at least 2 or 3 nights—there’s the visit to the granaries, walks to the pools, and then the peaceful evening life of the locals! here’s a little preview!

the southern route is stunning too! in February this year, the mountains were covered in purple flowers! Actually, in Morocco, there’s always something new to discover! safe travels to everyone... and let’s hope corona is behind us in 2021! francia
