Good evening everyone! 🙂 What a great idea this post is, Fabienne!! I love the concept!! It's so hard to choose with so many beautiful things. Lower Antelope Canyon!! The woman with hair in the wind (September 2017) The woman with hair in the wind (September 2017)

With our amazing Navajo guide, who was so kind and explained how a slot canyon forms in just a few minutes at the end of the visit.

One more for the road... Route 66, at Mr D'z in Kingman, Arizona:

Elvis and Marilyn show us where the "The Toilets" are...

PS: Wow, 150 posts in 4 days... talk about a flop!!

I was there too 😎... it was in May/June 2014. The atmosphere there was really great!

In the same vein, in Las Vegas, on the same sidewalk, just a few meters apart: - pimps hustling for prostitutes - a preacher armed with his Bible, standing on a crate, urging people to repent. A real "Clash of the Titans" in Sin City... Given the context, I’ve deliberately blurred the top of the faces in the photos.

MA Masterpo Globetrotter ·
And you, what details struck you?

A detail as big as a 21-meter-long wall, but still anecdotal: Bubblegum Alley, San Luis Obispo, CA. Here’s a (very small) sample... Some even form letters! What do you mean, gross? No way, it’s so American
FA Fabhyène Veteran ·
So, to sum up the latest contributions, we’ve got a bit of everything: a bunch of lazy lizards, license plates and road signs, diners and cafes along Route 66, a tragic love story between a cactus and a rock, a sunset and a view from the observatory in LA. Laland, the contradictions of the US with fast-food joints and a preacher on the same street—it was almost surreal that evening on Garces Street… a return to nature’s genius with the delicate mineral swirls of slot canyons, and an elephant-shaped arch.

The mosaic keeps growing!!!

I’ll add another piece with the only French-made car we saw during our entire 2016 road trip—a relic, in Sonoma.

What a great idea for this travel journal!

If I had to pick one photo from our summer 2017 trip, it would be this one:

It was in Santa Cruz, and I think it perfectly captures the vibe you feel when traveling along the California coast—the motel, the parking lot, the fairground on the beach, and the Pacific Ocean in the background.

TI Titoualsace Veteran ·
Hi Fabienne. After 3 trips to the American West (1988, 1991, and 2010) from the Pacific to South Dakota and from the Canadian border to the Mexican border, I’ve traveled through all the states. So it’s really hard to pick a favorite among thousands of photos. I’d arbitrarily choose these shots of the Burr Trail in Capitol Reef, Utah—this track descends into the Waterpocket Fold, where the landscapes are just stunning. I never ran into anyone (3 visits) in these places. On my last visit, the road was paved from the intersection with Highway 12 (Boulder) to the park boundary, which wasn’t the case before. Best regards.

It's not a well-known spot (somewhere between Rapid City and Cody), but I really love the sequence of landscapes with different textures and colors.

PA PapJ59 Globetrotter ·
So, some lesser-known spots...

- Johnnie Meier (Route 66 fan/collector) at the Classical Gas Museum in Embudo??? Where is that... just before Taos/New Mexico:

- A charming lady at the Sheridan Inn (Buffalo Bill’s haunt in Sheridan/Wyoming), a moving visit (a relic of a hotel that seems to have been closed since...):

- And a bit of American humor in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming (Route 28 between South Pass City and Farson), caught while driving...:

- And a quaint Colorado mining town (Rico) where not a single tourist passes (Route 145 from the valley toward Telluride/Colorado). A friendly and surprised postmistress. The 550 Million Dollar Highway runs parallel but along the ridges:

** All these places left us with memories just as lasting as the "big" sites!!

It's true that the sunrise on Monument Valley is a truly magical moment.

In 2018, I had the chance to sleep at The View—it’s really an experience you should do at least once. Finding yourself in the evening with no one around, on the terrace, with the Milky Way and the buttes as your backdrop, no noise, just a distant storm. The next day, the sunrise was even better.

I finally figured out how to do it :) I wasn’t putting the cursor under the text 😏
