Hi there, we're planning a trip to La Paz, Mexico at the end of December for a family of four. Which airline should we take? Where should we fly from? Are there any "layover countries" that are cheaper than others? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Hi,

Which departure airports can you consider?

Hi,

The most common route is from Paris CDG. You can stop over in the United States—it’s often cheaper, like via Dallas or Los Angeles with American Airlines or Delta.

Alternatively, you can connect through Mexico City and then take a Mexican low-cost airline like Volaris to La Paz. :)

Hi, if you're traveling through the USA, make sure to check whether a visa like the ESTA is required or not. Otherwise, as the previous poster mentioned, you’ll pretty much have to go through Mexico City to travel around Mexico.

Hi there,

If you're traveling through the United States, you'll need to get an ESTA—it's mandatory even for layovers and adds extra costs. The best option is to enter via Mexico City, with 3 to 4 daily nonstop flights from Paris CDG on Air France or Aeroméxico. First, search on comparison sites with your final destination (make sure to select La Paz in Mexico, code LAP). Then compare if booking CDG/MEX and a separate ticket on a low-cost airline works out cheaper. If you go this route, leave at least 4 hours between the two flights—it’s a bit risky if there are issues with the first one.
Cordialement, Patrick.

Hi there,

Google Flights is your friend, and once you’ve found a good option, make sure to book directly on the airline’s website. For this destination, you’ll have to connect through Mexico or the US. If you’re routing via the US, you’ll need an ESTA if you’re eligible ($21), otherwise you’ll have to apply for a visa. Just a heads-up—appointment wait times are *super* long in that case, and the cost is way higher than the ESTA.

Hi there, late December is definitely very expensive. From Geneva, it's 840 € with a layover in London-Heathrow, another in Phoenix-Sky Harbor, and of course, in Mexico City. Flights with British Airways and Viva Aerobus—the tickets are sold separately. Departure on 12/25
