Quick layover with Cathay Pacific

Hi there, I need to book a flight from Saigon to Roissy with a layover in Hong Kong. The layover is only 1h10, so I’m wondering what happens if there’s a delay (it’s a very short connection) and I can’t catch the next flight—what are the extra costs involved? I can’t find the info on their website. Could anyone shed some light on this? Thanks in advance

Hi there,

As long as it's a single ticket (an absolute must), your checked baggage will be checked through to your final destination, you'll get both boarding passes, and you'll be taken care of if needed.

Try to book a seat as far forward as possible on the first flight—it’ll save you some time.

If the first flight is delayed, Cathay will take care of you. Either the next flight will wait if the delay isn’t too bad, or in the worst case, you’ll spend the night in HK at Cathay’s expense.

Well, well, I took the same trip with the same airline but to Hanoi this summer [;)]

I’ve flown Cathay several times—the best economy experience I know on their A350s. Their A330 for HK-Hanoi was a bit dated, though, but it was a short flight.

And Hong Kong Airport is super well organized. A connection can be done in 30 minutes.

All that to say, 1h15 is totally doable. If you miss your connection due to a delay on the first Cathay flight, they’ll put you on the next one at their expense. On the other hand, it’s better to miss the outbound flight than the return, since there are several HK-Ho Chi Minh City flights a day, but only two HK-Paris flights.

Have a great trip[;)]
