The Drury-Chaney loop trail, 3.7 km long, is located along the Avenue of the Giants in California. The trail is flat and easy to follow.

The most striking feature of the Drury-Chaney loop is its lush vegetation of redwood sorrel, a small plant that looks like a clover and typically covers the ground under old-growth redwoods.

The trail begins in a clearing and immediately enters a dense redwood forest. This part of the hike (the first 400 meters) offers the most beautiful redwood sorrel species.

The lush forest vegetation thins out later on, but the trail remains very appealing as it allows you to see the tallest sequoias in the grove.

Thanks Anne for this super detailed report! I have a question about Grand Falls. From what I remember, the site was closed to visitors. Can you confirm you went there without any issues and without prior authorization? I’ll be heading back to the American West next February and this site really interests me! Thanks in advance!

Hi Franck,

I checked, and access to the site still seems to be blocked—it’s been that way since March 2023.

We probably went there just before the place closed.

What a shame!

Have a great day!
